Lincoln County was organized in 1866 shortly after the assassination of the president for whom it was named. Development started with the establishment of the Mining District during the mid-1860s, but the District do not meet expectations.
Pioche replaced it in prominence, soon becoming one of the leading mineral producers of the West. Lincoln County had several county seats, but the small communities invariably failed to live up to the role. With the rise of Pioche, Lincoln County found a seat of government in 1870 worthy of the task.
Today there are several reasons to live, work, and visit Lincoln County. Among those are the many various parks that include: Beaver Dam State Park, Cathedral Gorge State Park, Kershaw-Ryan State Park, and Spring Valley State Park.
This is a land of wide-open spaces under clear blue skies. The environment is characteristic of the high mountain desert. Pinion and Juniper trees provide shade and cool breezes. Southern Lincoln County offers Pahranagat Lakes and the Pahranagat National Wildlife Reserve, a natural habitat for migratory birds and wildlife.
